If you are a K-Pop fan, then you know that makeup is an important part of the look. From eye shadow to lipstick, each member of your favorite band has their own signature style. But what about those who don’t have the time or money to experiment with different looks? In this blog post, we will show you how to achieve K-pop makeup step by step!
Step One: Face
K-pop makeup involves a lot of contouring, highlighting and color correcting. For this reason, it’s important that you start with the right face base! A BB cream is perfect for achieving K-Pop skin tone because they are sheer enough to allow you to build coverage in certain areas (like under eyes or on blemishes). Try MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB Cream #23 SPF42. You can also use foundation if it matches your skin tone properly. To hide dark circles around your eyes, apply an orange corrector underneath concealer. Then add some highlighter along the brow bone and lightly brush over cheekbones. Lastly, set everything with powder using either a beauty blender or sponge before moving onto step two! Try SKINFOOD Peach Cotton Multi Finish Powder. This powder is formulated with natural peach extract and calamin powder that intelligently controls oil production on your skin
Step Two: Eyes
Now that you have your base, it’s time to work on the eyes! Many K-pop stars use a lot of color in their eye makeup. However, we will be focusing more on how they achieve certain looks using different shades. Using an eyebrow brush or pencil (depending on what works best for your eyebrows), draw small strokes along brows so that it mimics hairs. Then fill them in with brown shadow – try ETUDE HOUSE Long Lasting Drawing Eye Brow ! Next up is eyeliner! Draw along top lash line, but only press powder into outer corners because too much liner can make you washed out once other shadows are added. Lastly, add your favorite shade of blue (or any color) eyeshadow to the lid and make sure it is blended well!
Step Three: Cheeks
Now for a pop of color on the face! First off, use an orange or pink contour powder and draw along cheekbones – try Marc Jacobs Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in Hot Mess . Next up, pick a bright pink blush like Benefit Rockateur Box O Powder Blush/Highlighter or NARS Orgasm Illuminator , then take whatever was left over from step two and dust onto cheeks. If you have extra time after this step, add some highlight above apples of cheeks using highlighter or bronzer.
Step Four: Lips
Finally, it’s time for the lips! The K-pop look is known to be very full and bright. We suggest starting out with a nude lip that is slightly darker than your normal shade. Then add some color on top of it by dabbing lipstick onto center of bottom lip – we love Milani Color Statement Nude Pink. Lastly, add an opaque gloss over both layers like Maybelline Baby Lips or Tarte Smashing Glosses. Here are some other ideas if you want something more dramatic: try applying two coats of liquid lipstick before adding gloss; black matte eyeshadow around cupid’s bow and center of bottom lip; or pastel pink eyeshadow blended onto lips.
Step Five: Finishing Touches
Since achieving K-pop makeup can be a little time consuming, make sure to cut corners wherever you can! For example, skip the contouring if your skin is already tanned enough. Or use false lashes instead of drawing them on with liner – it will save so much time! Remember that there are tons of different looks that fall under this category (you don’t have to follow every step exactly). Just experiment until you find something that works best for you 🙂
Step Six: Hair
This step is optional, but if you have time we suggest styling your hair! Try a high ponytail with curling wand curls on the bottom. Or try a sleek top knot for an edgier look or a headband braid to make it more girly – whatever works best for you and your style! But what’s most important about achieving K-pop makeup? The right hairstyle in conjunction with everything else will take you one step closer towards looking like your fave idol!
Step Seven: Accessories
Now onto accessorizing! Since K-pop is all about being bright and bold, we suggest wearing some cute earrings to match your look. We love these heart studs from Topshop. Also, if you want to wear
a necklace with this style of makeup to have some sense of Korean style with simple yet elegant design, try Personalized Korean Necklace. This handmade name necklace features the name in Korean of yourself or of someone close to you.
Step Eight: Where To Shop For Supplies
Lastly, let’s talk a little bit about where you can find supplies for the perfect K-pop inspired makeup! First off, if you’re in Korea then it will be much easier – there are tons of beauty shops that carry everything needed. But if you are not in Korea, things might get a little trickier because you’ll have to rely on the internet. Luckily, there are many websites that will ship right to your house!
